This menagerie of studio tools represents the color’s versatility: a painting rag used to mop up a beautiful range of greens, a small watercolor palette of deep and dark colors, gold leaf paper, and gold-brushed horseshoe and nails. A tester canvas of strokes and dashes in gentler shades reﬂects the palette’s range. treetops 41 In this small sitting area, at left, tiered shades of green graduate upward from dark to light, giving loft to the ceiling and rooting the ﬂoor with earthy browns. Quirky antiques collected over time add character and heart to the space.
A faux marble–painted mantel executed in malachite green is the focal point of this traditional sitting room, at left.
